The 2500 in box at right is not for sale.

Early series of Ambassadeur reels between 1961 and 1965 turned out to be some of ABU”s most visually pleasing reels. When comparing the line carriage styles of the 1750 and 1750A, it was apparent that some of the design characteristics were taken directly from the first Record reels according to Simon Shimomura. The 2000, 2050, and the 2500 are direct drive models. The 1750, 1750A, 2600, and 2650 were all free spool reels.

It's interesting to note that the 1750 and 1750A did not carry the Ambassadeur name.

The 2500 model is extremely rare and the box is even more difficult to find. The prior owner who has been collecting for over 25 years says he has only seen 2 other boxes for the 2500.

Rare Ambassadeur Reels:

These reels are difficult to find and may or may not be for sale. The 4000D is MINT and the box is premium and includes corrugated board which holds the reel. The red 5500 is one of two versions (1979) having a red frame and rare 4 legged star. Reel is near mint. The GOLD 5500 shown in this line up is very rare. This reel was manuf. in very limited quanties in 1976. The box is even tougher to find. A mint reel in a good box will sell for $2250 or more. One year ago, a box by itself sold for $510. I'm very interested in a box for this reel should one be out there?

New Collectors Need to Be Aware!!!

Collecting Ambassadeur reels has become a popular activitie and is a worldwide hobby. Knowledge about the reels you are collecting is so important. One has to be able to recognize "knock-offs" and they are on Ebay most any day. A collector needs to know what affect "replacement" parts on a reel have and the effect they have as to value. A replacement part on a reel sold as original can be critical and in many cases collectors will not even look at your reel.

There are but two authors of books on AMBASSADEUR REELS. These authors, Simon Shimomura and Dan Skupien are about the only ones with an in depth study of Ambassadeur reels.. Shown below are the two books written by SIMON SHIMOMURA.

, by Simon Shimomura. A follow-up to first book. Released in 2003 and goes into detail on fake items, rare and unusual items and classification as to scarcity. $39.95 plus $6.00 s/h.......
