Why my custom cabs are better.
3/4" baffle. Most old amps came with
1/2", or thinner, baffles.
most of the repro cabs are built the same
way. We use 3/4", marine grade, voidless plywood for our baffles.
3/4" Back Panels come standard on all my
speaker cabs and Bassman/Bandmaster etc. combo cabs. How many old
amps have you seen with broken, or missing
back panels? My panels won`t break, and actually
protect the amp and tubes. In some
custom designs, I`ll use 1/2" marine grade plywood for the back panels,
but, still, much stronger than the stock 1/4"
panels you find on most old amps.
My cabs are 11.25 inches deep. I think a
deeper cab sounds bigger. My Bassman combo cabs are 11.25
inches at the bottom, with a one inch taper at the
top. The original cab was 10 inches at the bottom, 9 inches
at the top. Doesn`t sound like much, but, in my
opinion, makes a big difference in the sound
of the cab.
I think Dovetail Joints are stronger than
finger joints. Finger joints were used, and are still being used,
on a lot of amp enclosures.
I`m one guy, building each cab individually,
with love and pride. I enjoy doing this stuff and build each cab
as if it was for me.....
If
you have an
idea about something, let me know, I can help you plan it and build it
for
you. I`m a working musician, gigging each week, I love gear, so
if you have something to suggest in way
of a swap, or trade in on one of my cabs, I may be able to work with
you.
I also build
the cabinets for Shad Damron of Quinn Amplifiers,
Vancouver
WA. Check out his site, Shad builds an awesome boutique amp.
