AX 2002 Report

Lynx Well for me AX 2002 was my first AX.  I was not as impressed as I had expected to be.  I expected there to be more people to contend with in public areas (for which I was thankful there was not).  I expected to see many more costumes even though the many that I did see were very good.

It was great that we got to meet Hero for the first time.  We talked about Sora wa, the web page and were bemused by the  director of Utena sleeping in a chair right next to us in the lobby.

I found the Exhibit hall to be very large and impressive.  I found a lot of things there but nothing truely unusual.  The industry booths were set up huge and each had unique things about them (Pioneer did a booth honoring "Hellsing", Bandai did a large video screen showing their titles, and ADV/Suncoast teamed up to do a large 2 level deal with a screen below and industry people throwing freebies down from above).  The strangest thing was the O2 bar, where you could purchase and inhale oxygen.  Why .... I dont know.

I went to a few of the industry panels (Raijin comics and Bandai)  both of which were informative.  I also caught the screening of Tenchi GXP which looks super cool.  Kail managed to make it to the Viz panel which I will let her tell you about.

Tokyo Pop gave away free manga if you won a ring toss and one of them was MARS.  The significance of this is that MARS is/was a Sho Comi title.  This means that Viz isnt the only company picking up Flower Comics titles (which could be good or bad depending).

Over all I was impressed but no more so than every year when I go to Sakura Con in Seattle, WA.  I plan to go back again sometime though.  And I can't wait.

Hi Hi, one and all.

I had a ball at my first Anime Expo.  Spent waay too much money in the dealers room on the first day.  I came out at 1pm on Thursday with $21.  Mind you, the dealers room opened at noon.  And that $21 had to cover my food for the rest of the con. ^.^'

I went to several industry and guest panels.  Waited in line for 2hrs for the Watsuki, the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, panel.

At the Viz booth I spoke to, gaads... I can't remember her name...  ^.^'.  Well any hooo, I told her about how the number of visitors to the site went up after 'animerica extra' printed my email. And has stayed up.  That and the number of requests for having Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori translated. She sait she would tell the editor of 'animerica extra' about the responce we've recieved.  And how on the top 10 list in Japan published in 'animerica' show Sora's
tonkubans in the top ten when they come out.

I also told the folks at Tokyo Pop preatty much the same thing.  So if Viz doesn't bring it over, maybe they will...

But the best part of the con happened for me Sunday in the dealers room.  I found not one, not two, but three Sora items! A lamanated card, a post card and a pencil board.  All totalling less than $10 after tax....  But I was already broke.  Thanx to a NOVA friend, I was able to get them all!  Domo Arigato Gozaimasu Allen-san yo!

It was great to meet Hero and Friend.  Didn't get to talk for as long one could of hoped.  But hopefully there will be more time available next year.

I'm sooooooooooo there next year.

Ja ne Minna.
